Lecturers’ Challenges and Strategies in Teaching Maritime English Online to Students with Low English Proficiency

This study aimed to investigate the problems faced by ESP lecturers when teaching low English proficiency students during online Maritime lessons and their strategies in dealing with problems. A questionnaire six open-ended questions was distributed 9 from 6 different Polytechnics Indonesia. follow-up interview conducted four obtain more detailed information regarding practices, especially difficulties mitigate them. The findings of this revealed 3 (three) main lecturers. Firstly, were reluctant interact participate class activities. Secondly, showed motivation interest learning English. Thirdly, needed extra time explain materials. To overcome problems, used various texts, pictures, videos, or platforms expose maritime vocabulary. They also grouped lower higher a collaborative activity, designed activities based on students’ styles, employed scaffolding techniques.
